Stallion Testing
G.Q.
Romeo
and
I completed and passed the ISR/Oldenburg Lifetime Stallion
Testing. G.Q. Romeo was registered and inspected at Virginia Tech
in September of 2008. He received his Certified Breeding License at
that impromptu testing.
The
ISR/Oldenburg Lifetime Stallion testing was held from March 12 through
March 22, 2009 in Jupiter, Florida. This testing was a new format
which is taking the place of the 100 day stallion testing.
Romeo and I arrived in Florida on March 9th to allow Romeo time to
settle in. On March 12th, the vet inspection took place with a jog for
soundness and drug testing.
On
March 13, there was a training session with the training director
Helmut Schrant. Then March 14 in the morning was the free jumping and
in the afternoon was evaluation of the gaits which included trotting
500m, gallop 750m and walk 300m.
Sunday
March
15,
guest riders rode to evaluate the horses for general
rideability. The guest riders were Jim Koford and Fred Weber. Stallion
were ridden by there riders for 20 minute warm up, then each guest
rider rode for approximately 10 minutes to give a rideability score.
Monday was a day of rest for the horses and of course riders.
Tuesday,
Wednesday
and
Thursday were training days with the Helmut to prepare
for the dressage tests. Future testings, the ISR/Oldenburg hope to have
horses of other disciplines (hunters and jumpers) but at this testing
all horses were dressage prospects.
On
Friday March 20, a dressage test was ridden with each stallion. Then on
Saturday, March 21 a dressage guest rider rode each stallion for
dressage rideability score. The rider was Mikala Gundersen .
